Many DNV employees are mobile workers in the sense that most of their activities take place away from the office.

DNV develops suitable solutions for mobile work in various DNV services, deploys these solutions with operating personnel, and observes the use of the solutions in order to get feed-back on how they can be improved.

The Mobile Worker project was actively persued by DNV Research in the years 1999 to 2003. Our main focus was on testing available technology, experience their limitations - but more important identify their potentials. Transfering desktop solutions to mobile devices is usually deemd to fail. Our research project provided DNV with valuable insight into user preference and acceptance, design criteria for interfaces of mobile devices and potential of emerging technologies.

Our research focused on the possibilities that wearable equipment may offer for surveyors, consultants and other mobile workers. Our work has a long time scope, while the solutions we provide are based on local adjustments to products that are commercially available now.

Developmental work from the prototype software into a business software is now done by DNV Software unit.
