The concept dates back to 1994, and the "Inspection and Maintenance"
research program.
It has been known for a long time, that a majority of the ship hull inspection reports
deals with cracks. There is also frequently a conflict between the inspector's
demand for repair, and the ship's need for keeping the schedule.
To assist the surveyors' decisions, the pilot test service "Crax", was developed.
This covered 8 interactive web calculators, fitted to different questions about
growth of cracks.
Physically, the calculators were based on best available state of the art methods,
within fracture mechanics, fatigue test data, and, structural reliability.
Technically, the calculators provide a world wide, 24 hour service, with graphic
interface fitted for office or home PC installations.
"MoBee Crax", is a tentative pocket telephone alternative, to the simplest
one of these web calculators. It is furnished with acoustic interface.
Waiting for convenient hardware to be available - such as interactive speaking WAP -
the development is carried out with the virtual Crax-handset.
