The increased attention on global pollution and possible permanent changes of environment has put a focus on shipping and it environmental profile.  IMO has given environmental issues high priority and has worked with new annexes to MARPOL where air pollution from ships are beeing adressed.

Through the Norwegian Research Counsils program MARITIM the norwegian authorities has shown its desire to stimulate a broad development of the maritime industry.

For owners and offshore entrepreneurs the maritime industrys environmental efforts are collected under the theme MARITIM MILJØSATSING (Maritime Environmental Effort) which is beeing coordinated by a board with a program manager handling the day to day operation.   The board has representatives from the owners, authorities, yards and the class societies.
