DNV HomePage ~ A Course in Ocean Engineering ~ ~ Talk ~ Phone.

~ Tools Cabinet ~ [*3#] ~ (Most functions are under reconstruction)

The course offers a number of tools which intend to facilitate the course itself as well as technical work later on. Some features are well established while others are on the research stage.
1: Internal Calling ~ [*31#] Ocean's internal calling system.
2: Wessel Counter ~ [*32#] Calculator for complex functions.
3: Slide Rule ~ [*33#] Calculator for advanced form input.
4: Field Service ~ [*34#] Wireless pocket-Ocean.
5: Talking Textbook ~ [*35#] "Complex Potential" on the Stereo.
6: Mobile Computing ~ [*36#] Wave height pocket predictor.
7: Audible Editor ~ [*37#] Telephone editor AUDIT.
8: Mobile Worker ~ [*38#] Remote computer with AUDIT input.
9: Course Forward ~ [*39#] Status and future of the field service.
The Tools Cabinet is the site of the calling central, calculator machinery, speech & audio tools and field service efforts.
The Internal Calling operates the call-boxes which provide direct transition between house activities and text-book material.
The Wessel Counter is a calculator particulary prepared for calculation with complex numbers and functions. The Norwegian surveyor Caspar Wessel (1745-1818) was the first to give a geometrical representation of complex numbers in 1797, (200 years in 1997). This was done prior to both Gauss and Argand.
The Slide Rule is a simpler calculator for algebraic operations and some selected mathematical functions. The number input fields in the computer forms accept Slide Rule input. That is: a mathematical expression may be given rather than the input number itself.
The remaining items are experiments on how to furnish a mobile and wireless field service in pocket format.
